Ok, so, I have a gripe... like many runners do...
This morning on my run, like on so many others, I passed the occasional person, be it walker, baby strollerer, runner, jogger, gallavanter, or sillyheart-and without fail, I always wave, but more often than not, the wave is accompanied by a "good morning" or "evenin'" or "how are you?"... and more often than not, here's what I get in return...
(crickets..... crickets....)
Come on people, is it THAT hard to give me a LITTLE something back? I know we don't know eachother, will not spend more than a brief second together, and will more than likely never see one another again, but is it THAT hard to wave back or return a "good morning?" I offer that it is not...
Often, when I pass these people and have such an experience, I wonder what they're thinking after our encounter... Are they thinking, "boy, the nerve of that guy.." or "man, I showed him..." or "he was scary!"... In my growing boldness, I often repeat my salutation, even louder than before and see if I get a response... Sometimes it's a grunt, but usually it's nothing... Shit, I'm starting to feel like I'm back in Starkville...
And as for the drivers out there... When I wave to you, it's not because I know you, it's an a) acknowledgement that in a fight, you win-hands down... and b) my way of thanking you for not running my ass over... Do me a solid and wave back...
Ok.. done with that...
I'm starting to look at my summer and what races I'll be doing... I'm kicking around the idea of doing Heart O' Dixie in July, a notoriously hot race in Louisville/Philadelphia, MS... It'd be the longest race yet at .5 mi/27.5/7, but if I intend to do a Half Ironman at some point (which I do), I need to HTFU and start doing longer and longer races... I guess HoD will be the big summer race, with Age Group Nationals being the big fall race on September 25 (that is, if I can a) increase my swim distance while decreasing my swim time, b) increase my bike speed while decreasing bike time, and c) increase my run speed while decreasing my run time...) AG Nats is a REAL race... with FAST people... not just your typical regional triathlon where there are a bunch of "first timers" out there giving it a shot... Even the Clydes at AG Nats are fast...
I've got a lot of work to do before then....
